Workshops
28th January 2023 we delivered our first Bird Photography Workshop in 3 years, but it was worth the wait! Throughout the day, 8 participants had a tour of the reserve, spending time in some of the hotspots learning and perfecting techniques to capture wild birds in their natural habitat, and I saw some really nice shots from the group.
We started with a chat and introductions in the centre over coffee, with a broad mix of gear on show from Olympus, Canon and Nikon, both mirrorless and DSLR. We then headed into the woods to see some typical woodland species, then on to the first hide of the day. Black-headed gulls, swans and coot were oh show, and although I had hinted at the possibility of a kingfisher, we were only treated to a fly-by as he shot past us at speed.
Next up were the Jays, which I had promised some close views of....thankfully they played ball and showed up a few times at close quarters for some really nice photos. From there we made our way to the next hide on Kinnego bay, and then on to the marina for a look for the Herons - again we were treated to a fine display of a fishing heron at close quarters.
The weather was changeable and damp, the light was good mostly and we had a really good day out on the reserve. Thanks to Sandra and team for facilitating and organising and to Rosie for the photos of the participants from the day. Our next workshop will be a 2-day macro photography workshop in the summer, already looking forward to it!
