Winter is hard for the birds - especially the smaller birds in your garden and now is the time to make sure you feed them well. Feeding them is also a great way to watch them from the comfort of your home, and ensures you can take part in national surveys such as the Big Garden Bird Watch on 24th & 25th January.
I find the Bushnell trail cams allow me to monitor the birds in the garden even when I'm at work, and you can get some great footage if you setup a small log feeder and leave the camera nearby.
This footage below shows redpolls, robins and dunnocks all enjoying the sunflower hearts and suet pellets left out on a snowy wintry day :
